We had such a great Christmas this year. The holiday season kind of flew by for us.
Having a child to share Christmas with is such an incredible joy, of course he doesn't "get it" yet.
But that's not really why it's great, having people you love to share things with.

(by the way, you should definitely see that movie, with tissues.)

Hope everyone had a great Holiday season, no matter how you celebrated.

Christmas

I was horrible at taking pictures this year! So, I will post what I have and document what I remember. This year was our fifth Christmas together married. It also marks our last as a family of two, as baby boy will be a nine month old next year. We have the blessing and the curse of having both families so close, so we try to be everywhere and see everyone- it gets a little stressful for us, but we love our families.

*Christmas Eve we spent dinner at Texas Roadhouse with the Payne side and then quickly jetted down to Pleasant Grove to see the Knight side. We had an entertaining slide show of the most awkward family photos and a beautiful nativity, with our nieces and nephews playing the rolls. When Brandon and I got home we read a Christmas story and read a few verses from the Bible, I get so caught up in the presents that I often forget the true reason for the season.

*Christmas Day we got up and I had made monkey bread the night before, I made enough for 5 families... Brandon and I spent the morning together, just us two- for the last time. We talked about what next year would be like and how excited and scared we are to see how this is all going to work out! Around 1 we headed to see my sisters and their families, we quickly stopped by their houses to see the loot Santa brought their kids and then went to my Moms for dinner.  One of my best friends Cortnie lived two doors away my entire life and she was at her parents on Christmas, so we got a quick belly shot- we are only 3 weeks apart.  We draw names for gifts on that side and exchange them. My sister Jenny got me the necklace in the post below and I cried when she gave it to me, it was so thoughtful and meant so much to me and I have an insane amount of hormones running through me!!

*It was a great couple of days, but I think Brandon and I were both relieved for it to be over... it is a stressful time of year! (Not to mention drill competition season starts and finishes my holiday season every year.) We took down our tree a few days after and we both keep saying how nice and clutter free our house is.

On a side note, the nursery is coming along.  It is painted and trim is starting to be hung.  I am taking pictures at different phases in the process and will post them when we are finished! I can't believe our son will be here is three (approx.) months.  I am so excited to meet him, get to know him, and be his Mom.  I hope that we do him justice as parents... it is so amazingly scary to know that you are meant to shape this gift, pregnancy and children are such a reassurance of God and his role in our lives. I am scared beyond belief and hope to do the best job that I can with my son. So much left to do for him and time is getting short! One day at a time!

bahhh humbug!!

ever since Tuesday night I have been a scrooge.  My Christmas spirit took off on vacation and I would really like to have it back! But I am a grump... maybe I should watch every Christmas movie I own, starting with Elf... or go see Santa at the mall, he is sure to have some extra cheer looming around. But lately I want to just watch how the Grinch stole Christmas and get tips... not on the stealing Christmas part, (pull your heads out of the gutter!) but on the making my heart grow part.

*We had a lovely Christmas this year. Spent lots of time with both of our families! We started of with Texas Roadhouse w/ the Paynes, then headed over to the Knight's... We were lucky enough to see 7 out of 8 Knight kids this year and Adam skyped in for the party from Texas. It was my father in laws 60th Birthday on Christmas Eve. We had a great time with them. Christmas morning we exchanged gifts and went to see as many kids as we could, most are pictured. I am so grateful at this time of year for my husband, my families, my job, my health, and I always have such a full heart on Christmas. I love this time of year. I did unfortunately get a really intense migraine half way through the day, which led to a healing blessing- a thing I haven't had in a while. It was beautiful and such a good reminder this Christmas of the spirit and the reason for the season.*

Love you all, hope you found some place warm to be with people you loved this year.

Jordan Competition and Christmas Traditions

Well, my girls competed in their first competition of the season yesterday. They performed well, had awesome energy and loved the day. I heard them saying over and over, I just want to go dance again, it was so fun! Which is really what it is all about.
Placement wise we got 4th in kick, coming in right behind the Salt Lake schools... 6th in Dance, and we tied for 6th in Military-but ended up at 7th, due to a lost tie breaker to Fremont.
(Note: Davis, for whatever reason, has a history of having a hard time placing well at Jordan...any d'ette or coach from Davis could attest to this. )
At the beginning of the year, I wasn't planning on attending this competition, I just don't love it. It is an extremely long day and far from home and it is huge, which is a bad and a good thing- I got to see the competition, but also it was so overwhelming. I just am not sure it is worth it. There were 15 teams in the 5A catergory, almost as much as State.

I don't think I will go back to Jordan next year, after spending 15+hours at the high school yesterday, it was exhausting. I think the girls would have done just as well at Bountiful or a competition closer to home, and plus we would save on expenses- no hotels. They would have had the performing and competing experience, just not so long of a day... That's just my train of thought today about the competition.

The girls have worked so hard and did EXTREMELY well yesterday.. they executed well, had great facials, had very minor mistakes, most of my judging comments were minor things that I can fix before our next competition. They always talk about representing Davis, and let me tell you they did.

I am so proud of my girls and how hard they have worked, the countdown for Region begins now. I know the girls will continue to work hard. They are such an incredibly talented group of young women and I am so impressed by them, they amaze me on a daily basis. I love my job (or service project- like my husband says) it truly has been a dream come true, that I didn't know I even had. Traditions in excellence indeed, my girls had great sportsmanship yesterday as well, clapping and wishing good luck to every team on and off the floor.

Jordan Beet usually does mean one other thing, that Christmas is a week away...

I am sure my husband will be happy to have a drill team free wife for the next 10 days- it's a mandated moratorium... So until then, I am shopping, baking cookies, and seeing many, many extended family members.

We are lucky this year, because it is my father in law Greg's 60th birthday- so 7 of the 8 children in Bk's family will be here for Christmas- Which is EXTREMELY rare for the Knight's. I am so excited to see all the brothers, sisters, nieces, and nephews- some of them has been two years. My husbands family is scattered across the US in Texas, Conneticut, North Carolina, and Nevada- it will be great to have everyone together.

I am lucky enough to have my family all within thirty minutes, my Mom has always made us practice Christmas traditions... as a child I often thought she was over the top... Now I can only hope to give the same Christmas' to my future family that she made for us. She wanted all of our hopes and dreams to come true and I can't ever remember being disappointed on Christmas- My Dad always reading from the Bible on Christmas Eve, my Mom always so excited to give her children everything she could... I can't thank my parents enough for all they did for me and my sisters growing up- I am finally realizing more and more as an adult all the tiny and big things they always did to make each of us feel special and loved. Thank you truly from the bottom of my heart.

With all of that, I hope you all take a minute to think of your favorite traditions and Christmas memories. I always think of the people I love and that love me at this time of year and find myself so overcome with emotion on how truly blessed I have been, not with worldly things, but with such incredible family members in my life. My two older sisters who set amazing examples for me, my baby sister who is growing up so fast and becoming more beautiful and charismatic every day. My Mom who is truly my very best friend, who I can only hope to become half the women that she is. My Dad who I am too much like, who loves and cares for many, who is extremely spiritual, and gives very sound advice like "stop being such a girl." My husband who truly is my other half, we couldn't be more opposite or more made for each other. I am so happy to have him in my life. He makes me a better person.

I hope this holiday season everyone finds love in their hearts and remembers the true reason for the season.

Wise men still seek him.

Kelli

realignment of regions

I know to some of you this may not be a big deal... but UHSAA realigned regions for the next two years a couple weeks ago... Differences for the drill team world, Hillcrest is going 4A. Along with Clearfield and Roy. Also, Viewmont is NO LONGER in Davis' region... in 5A all of the regions are divided up equally into 6 schools per Region... Which means only 3 school from each region get to go to State for drill... And 4A drill just got a whole lot more interesting, Hillcrest v. Bountiful LOVE IT! Not that a lot of people who read this will really care, but this a a pretty big deal for me... Just sayin'!

On a side note I got the worst cold ever the past couple days, the one that is going around... that everyone has. It knocked me down pretty good. Today is the first day I feel somewhat better and I still haven't left my house- the good news is I have sneezed less than 20 times today. Gahh go away cold, I don't have time for you.

My girls {d'ettes} have their first competition this week. I have so many mixed emotions coming up on this Saturday. I am so excited and nervous, I just really want them to know that their hard work was for something! We are having a Competition Send Off at Davis on Wednesday at 7pm! It is free, the only time during the year when you can see them dance for free... which is nice- come out and support them and me if you have the time. I know it's a crazy time of year.

Hope you all have finished your Christmas shopping (I haven't) and are seeing too much of your family and are eating way to many sugar cookies. I love you all, Happy Holidays!!
